Why we ride at Orlando Harley® /Episode 3

Posted by Orlando Harley on Oct 16, 2019 12:41:47 PM

Grateful to be a part of an incredible organization!

At Orlando Harley-Davidson® we live Harley 24/7. Our passion for riding goes beyond the dealership. We are on the road everyday with you. Every rider can remember their first encounter with a motorcycle and they never forget their first ride, most memorable rally and their favorite custom build bike along the riding journey.

This week we're featuring the one, the only, Charles Garcia! Orlando Harley's Parts Director. He holds it down and is an encyclopedia of Genuine HD parts knowledge. He's happy to help get you connected with the right part for your bike all day, every day.

Here's why Charles Rides:

Being born and raised here in Central Florida, I have been fortunate to be around this great weather year-round.  Every winter I say to myself "How awesome is it that I can ride my Harley-Davidson with just a t-shirt and jeans, while so many other people in every other state have their motorcycle stored away?" I have been riding motorcycles for about 14 years now and honestly it wasn’t until I graduated high school that I really ever gained interest. I purchased my first brand new motorcycle at 18 and immediately fell in love with the lifestyle. Even though it was a Suzuki sport bike that I purchased, joining the motorcycle scene opened up a whole new world for me.

I enrolled at Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) here in Orlando the year after I graduated high school to learn all I could learn about motorcycles. I realized that working in the motorcycle industry is something I wanted to do long term. During that 24-month program I landed a job in the parts department here at Orlando Harley-Davidson one week before Bike Week 2006. Definitely the greatest time to experience it all in the motorcycle industry. Working in the tourist destination of Central Florida has enabled me to experience so much diversity in the world of Harley-Davidson.  Never in the years that I have been with OHD have I had two days exactly alike. I would have to say the ability to have connected with so many customers from so many walks of life worldwide have made me very successful with this company.

I always tell my friends and family that it is a dream for most people to own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, especially those people that live outside of the US.  I can’t describe how cool is it to work for such an awesome company that can help so many people’s dreams come true.

why we ride at Orlando Harley ® /Episode 2

Why I (almost) Started Riding

At Orlando Harley-Davidson® we live Harley 24/7. Our passion for riding goes beyond the dealership. We are on the road everyday with you. We wanted to share our riding stories with you. Every rider can remember their first encounter with a motorcycle and they never forget their first ride, most memorable rally and their favorite custom build bike along the riding journey.

This week we're featuring our beloved Marketing Director Dahlia Deida. Check out her freedom story below.

Growing up back and forth between New York and Orlando, I had a very diverse upbringing.  At a very young age, I embarked on my “Adult Adventure” and moved to New York on my own.  I lived with my older cousin Carmen for a few years and remember her boyfriend (now husband) rode a Kawasaki Ninja and used to ride me back and forth to the city from Brooklyn for work sometimes. Later on I would date a guy that rode a Suzuki GSX-R and remember riding with him to the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy.  Zipping around the city on the back of a bike was a thrill.  I was young and it made me feel like a rebel.  Soon those memories would fade and I wouldn’t find myself on a bike again until some 20 years later.

Enter the world of Orlando Harley-Davidson.  After years of working in the automotive industry, opportunity came knocking with some very loud exhausts.  I was offered a position in Business Development with the dealer group and after some careful consideration and a meeting with the owners, I decided that this was something that I really wanted to do.  Leave the world of automotive and transition into working with people that “wanted” the product that I represented, not just “needed” a way to get around.  I thought to myself, this could be so much fun!  One of the requisites of my employment was to become endorsed so during the brutally hot month of July in 2016, I found myself once again on a motorcycle, but not a sports bike this time, a Harley and this time I wasn’t riding two up, I was the one gripping the handlebars.  “Wow, I am really doing this!” I thought to myself.  “I am riding a Harley!”  I remember in the midst of all that heat, geared up in jeans and a long sleeve shirt, I got goosebumps because I thought to myself “Look at me being the bad ass!”  I was both terrified and amazed.  It was a little overwhelming as I recall that I was in a class full of experienced riders also taking the course as part of their process to become Riding Academy Coaches.  Although I did well in the classroom and even during some of the modules on the course itself, I ultimately failed due to my nerves kicking in full gear and not being able to master a sharp turn from a standing start.  My coach Jim however invited me back to take some personal lessons and then a couple of weeks later I earned my endorsement.  Then nothing.  I never took my MSF card to the DMV to actually put my riding into action.

Fast forward to 2018, I am immersed in this culture.  I walk past Harleys every single day of my life.  I hear them revved up, I watch them get staged every morning.  I attend rides and watch hundreds of riders taking off from our shops, I’ve have recorded stunt riders at events.  I have attended Bike Nights at Ace, I traveled across the country to watch the unveiling of new models.  I witnessed the launch of the first ever EV motorcycle and I think to myself “WHY the hell am I not a part of this party?”  Everyone that I work with (co-workers, clients, riding groups, etc.) is so nice, I get encouraged to ride all the time.  I make excuses, I live too far, these roads are so challenging and then I decide to enroll in the class once again but this time with my friend and colleague in tow.  We take the class, we ACE the class and I find myself newly endorsed and run to the DMV as soon as possible to add “END: A-MTRCL Also” to my license and just like that!  I am endorsed.  Then just like that I don’t get on a motorcycle for months until one day, my significant other brings home this semi rusty looking Honda Shadow and tells me about a fellow thinking of selling it and asks me if I want to test my riding skills.  So, here we are, one fine Saturday morning in November and I find myself at the entrance of my subdivision on this rattling machine and it takes me a lifetime to gather the courage to actually set loose into traffic.  “I am riding a motorcycle amidst cars!”  All of my training and wins in class fade from my thoughts and a single thought drones on in my head “Just keep going, don’t kill the throttle, just keep going…….”  Some odd 30 minutes later, I am home.  I survived and I am tingling from head to toe!  This has got to be one of the single most thrilling moments of my life.  I have not bought a motorcycle yet.  I have not overcome my fear of riding the open road yet but the exhilaration of that one Saturday morning in November of 2018 continues to call to me.  And so a Harley Rider is born.  I am 42 years old, I work for Orlando Harley-Davidson and I am surrounded by awe inspiring, kick ass, motorcycle riding women and I will be one too!!!

why we ride at Orlando Harley ® /Episode 1

At Orlando Harley-Davidson® we live Harley 24/7. Our passion for riding goes beyond the dealership. We are on the road everyday with you. We wanted to share our riding stories with you. Every rider can remember their first encounter with a motorcycle and they never forget their first ride, most memorable rally and their favorite custom build bike along the riding journey.

This week we're featuring our beloved Finance Manager, Dana Cooley. She's been a dedicated Orlando Harley®  employee and rider for many years. We are so grateful she's on our team and breaking boundaries with Orlando female riders daily. Check out her freedom story below.

I got in to riding because, like many women, I just got tired of riding on the back. Something that absolutely fascinated me was the want to be on two wheels. I started on a sport bike, and rode a Kawasaki 600 for almost 5 years. When I moved to Florida, and started working for OHD is when I finally purchased my first Harley.  A 2014 Sand Camo Iron 883, and I put about 15 thousand miles on that bike in the two years of owning it. Even rode some roads as far as Sturgis SD with her. Now having my Dyna Low Rider S, I couldn't be more in love with riding.

I had a woman ask me one day if I did yoga while she and her husband were sitting in my office purchasing a new motorcycle. I thought it was a strange question.  Then she proceeded to tell me how she loved it, how it helped her de-stress from her daily life, and just made her feel so much better afterwards. Thinking nothing of that, later that night on my ride home, when the sun was setting, and there was hardly anyone on the roads, I thought to myself... “This is my "yoga". This is why I ride”.... It gives me the closest feeling to being alive, and sometimes to the point of getting goosebumps. It unwinds me after a long day, and can take a bad day and make it disappear. Some do yoga to get that, some exercise. For me I ride.

Being able to work for Harley® , especially OHD a place I have worked at for over 5 years, doesn't feel like a job at times but just working at a place that is part of my daily lifestyle. Where everyone shares the same passions, and same interests. The customers make my day at times. I've had people cry, hug me, and dance after buying their first Harley® , and being able to be a part of that moment with them is pretty damn cool

Road Trip Tips & Tricks

Posted by Lindsey Rubin on Jul 26, 2019 12:31:00 PM

With the Sturgis® motorcycle rally fast approaching you probably have a lot to pack and prepare for. Booking your hotel room, coordinating meeting spots with friends, and where to stop and grab a bite are important to map out in advance. In addition to this, it’s important to be prepared with the necessary gear.

Below are some vital must haves while road tripping and preparing for this type of experience.

  • Plastic bags – These can come in handy as boot liners if you forgot some.
  • A multi-tool – This can come in much handier than your traditional pocketknife.
  • Rain gear and cold weather gear – even though it’s Summertime you need to be prepared for all types of conditions.
  • Lightweight clothing – This way you can quickly wash and dry your clothing in a hotel sink while on the go.
  • Ratty clothing is always best – the more used and worn the better.
  • A small towel – This can come in handy during a rainstorm preventing water from running down your neck into your jacket.

Running through this handy checklist will help you pack and prepare. You never know what you may need while riding through a trail, or guided tour in a hidden area you’ve never seen before.

Jarheads MC Tragedy

Posted by Orlando Harley on Jul 1, 2019 2:17:00 PM

Orlando, Florida – July 1, 2019 – Orlando Harley Davidson remains in shock since learning that seven members of the Jarhead Motorcycle Club were killed in a horrible accident caused by the driver of a truck towing a flatbed trailer.  On June 25th, the driver was criminally charged. It is a woeful understatement that we are profoundly sad over this senseless and tragic loss and searching for how we might help.

After consulting with a Jarhead Motorcycle Club representative, Laconia Harley-Davidson has committed to a donation of $20,000 for the families of those who lost their lives or were injured in the crash.  We will wire funds directly to the club this week; and they will disperse to the families on our behalf.  Of course, money cannot make up for the loss of the lives of fine people.  It is our hope that this contribution will in a small way assist families in the anguished times ahead.

In addition, we are raising awareness for the GoFundMe page that the Jarheads organized, which has already over $500,000 towards a goal of $700,000. The Club has stressed no donation is too small.  Donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/jarheads-mc-victims-and-families-support.

It is our understanding that a ride is being coordinated to take place on Saturday July 6th from the Broken Spoke to support the fundraising effort.  Once we have gathered more details on this ride, we will send news on our social media channels.

We want to express our deepest condolences to the families on behalf of Laconia Harley-Davidson.

If you would like to learn more information about how you can donate towards helping the victims and families please visit our website https://www.gofundme.com/jarheads-mc-victims-and-families-support or contact us at (407) 447-7400.
